Telecom Egypt has ushered in a new chapter with the appointment of Lobna Helal as the chair of its board of directors, marking her as the first woman to hold the position in the company’s history.
Helal succeeds Dr. Magued Osman, who stepped down after a nine-year tenure as chair since 2016. The leadership transition, effective immediately, was announced alongside the reappointment of Mohamed Nasr as managing director and CEO for a second term.
Helal, a seasoned financial expert with over 30 years in the banking sector, steps into the role with a robust pedigree. She previously served as deputy governor of the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE), where she shaped monetary stability policies.
Beyond Telecom Egypt, Helal holds influential board positions at institutions like the National Bank of Egypt and Egypt’s Sovereign Wealth Fund, reflecting her deep ties to the country’s financial and development landscape.
Expressing her gratitude, Helal said, “I am deeply honored to serve as the first woman to chair Telecom Egypt’s board. I thank the directors for their trust and embrace this responsibility with a commitment to excellence in governance, strategy, and sustainable growth.”
She also paid tribute to her predecessor, adding, “Dr. Magued Osman’s exceptional leadership over the past nine years has laid a strong foundation for us to build upon, ensuring a future of innovation and prosperity for Telecom Egypt.”
Meanwhile, Mohamed Nasr’s reappointment as CEO signals continuity in the company’s ambitious agenda. “I’m grateful for the board’s confidence,” Nasr said. “We’ve made significant progress in recent years, and I’m eager to drive further growth, innovation, and top-tier service for our customers.” He welcomed Helal’s leadership, noting, “Together, we aim to elevate Telecom Egypt as a regional data hub and champion digital transformation across Egypt and beyond.”
