In a proud milestone for Kenya and African women leaders, Monica Juma has been appointed Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and Director General of the UN Office in Vienna, one of the UN’s most strategic global roles.
The appointment, announced by UN Secretary-General António Guterres, recognises Dr Juma’s exceptional track record of professionalism, patriotism, and outstanding service to Kenya.
Her most recent role as National Security Advisor and Secretary to the National Security Council stood out for its excellence, earning her international acclaim. Across every assignment, Dr Juma has delivered with unwavering dedication — from national security to high-level diplomacy — securing her place among the world’s top leaders.
