Woman of the Week: Proscovia Nabbanja, Chief Executive Officer, Uganda National Oil Company Limited (UNOC)

Under Proscovia Nabbanja’s leadership, UNOC has continued to deepen its involvement in critical national projects, including crude oil development, infrastructure planning, and strategic collaborations with international oil companies and government stakeholders.

As Chief Executive Officer of Uganda National Oil Company Limited (UNOC), a state-owned enterprise, she has managed Uganda’s commercial interests in the petroleum sector and play a central role in the country’s journey toward first oil and long-term energy security.

She is a seasoned energy executive with extensive experience in corporate leadership, strategy execution, and public sector enterprise management within Uganda’s oil and gas industry.

In her role at UNOC, Nabbanja provides strategic leadership across the company’s expanding portfolio, overseeing corporate governance, national participation in upstream and midstream petroleum projects, commercial partnerships, and institutional capacity development. Her stewardship has been pivotal in strengthening UNOC’s operational readiness, aligning the company’s mandate with national development priorities, and positioning it as a credible commercial partner within Uganda’s evolving oil and gas value chain.

Nabbanja has been instrumental in embedding strong governance frameworks, promoting transparency, and ensuring that UNOC’s growth is underpinned by sustainability, local content development, and value creation for the Ugandan economy.

Before she was appointed CEO, Nabbanja built a distinguished career within Uganda’s public sector, holding senior leadership roles that strengthened her expertise in policy implementation, institutional management, and public financial oversight.
