Woman of the Week: Rose Muturi, Managing Director, Branch International, Kenya

Rose Muturi, a distinguished financial services and fintech leader with over a decade of experience driving digital transformation, financial inclusion and strategic growth across banking, credit infrastructure and technology-enabled financial services in East Africa.

She currently serves as Managing Director for East Africa at Branch International, where she leads regional strategy, regulatory engagement, product innovation and operational execution, positioning the company as a key player in Africa’s digital lending and neobanking ecosystem.
At Branch International, Rose’s leadership spans market expansion, responsible lending strategy, customer-centric product development and stakeholder engagement.

Over the past year, she has played a central role in advancing Branch’s evolution beyond digital lending into a broader digital financial services platform, strengthening the company’s use of data and AI-driven credit models to improve risk assessment, enhance customer experience and responsibly expand access to credit for underserved populations. Her guidance has also supported the rollout of new in-app financial tools, including savings and payment features, reinforcing Branch’s position as a trusted digital finance partner.

Her leadership has further been instrumental in deepening partnerships that support micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), helping to bridge financing gaps and drive economic participation. These initiatives align with Branch’s mission to deliver inclusive, accessible and sustainable financial solutions across the region.

Prior to her current role, Rose built a strong foundation across both traditional banking and fintech institutions. She previously served as Chief Digital Officer at HFC Kenya, where she led enterprise-wide digital strategy and transformation initiatives aimed at modernising banking operations and improving customer engagement.

She also held the role of Regional Manager and Director for East Africa at Tala, contributing to the scaling of digital credit solutions and regional market growth.

Her career additionally includes senior leadership roles at TransUnion, where she served as Acting Country Manager and Executive Board Member, supporting the development of Kenya’s credit information infrastructure, as well as earlier roles at Standard Chartered Bank and Chase Bank Kenya, where she gained deep expertise in priority banking, pricing strategy, retail banking transformation and project management.

Beyond her executive responsibilities, Rose is a respected voice and industry builder within Kenya’s financial services ecosystem. She is the Founder and Chairperson of the Digital Lenders Association of Kenya (DLAK), where she champions responsible digital lending, consumer protection and industry self-regulation. She also serves as a Board Member of the Association of Microfinance Institutions – Kenya, contributing to policy dialogue, governance and sector development.
