Liquid Names Leah Nakazwe Kooma CEO of Zambia Operations

Liquid Intelligent Technologies, a business of Cassava Technologies, has appointed Leah Nakazwe Kooma as Chief Executive Officer for its Zambia operations, effective April 1, 2026.

The appointment underscores Liquid’s commitment to strengthening leadership as it expands digital infrastructure and connectivity services across Zambia and the wider Southern African region.

Kooma succeeds the acting leadership of Mwendamo Mazaba, who led the business during the rollout of SME-focused digital portals and public Wi-Fi projects aimed at improving digital access across the country.

Commenting on the appointment, Wellington Makamure, Sub-Saharan Africa CEO for Cassava Technologies, said Kooma’s leadership arrives at a critical time for the company’s growth strategy.

“With over two decades of experience across the telecommunications, financial services, and media sectors, Kooma’s leadership is pivotal at this stage for the Zambia business.”

“Her proven ability to deliver results will drive the next phase of growth,” Makamure added.

Kooma brings more than 20 years of cross-industry experience to the role. She began her career at Barclays Bank before joining Celtel, where she worked across multiple African markets.

In 2016, she joined Vodafone Zambia as Chief Sales and Distribution Officer, playing a key role in launching the country’s first 4G Long-Term Evolution (LTE) network.

She later joined MultiChoice Zambia in 2017 as GOtv Commercial General Manager, eventually rising to Chief Customer Officer before becoming Managing Director.

Speaking on her appointment, Kooma expressed confidence in the company’s growth prospects.

“I have watched from the terraces as the business has evolved over the years, and I believe that, together with my team, we can take it to the next level,” she said.

Kooma holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Development Studies from the University of Zambia and a Master of Business Administration from the University of South Wales.

She also serves on several boards, including as Board Chair of the Mulungushi International Conference Centre, and is a member of the Institute of Directors and Business Professional Women International.

Her appointment comes as Liquid intensifies efforts to bridge Zambia’s digital divide, focusing on improved home network connectivity and managed digital services for both public and private sector organisations.
