The International Finance Corporation (IFC), the private-sector investment arm of the World Bank Group, has appointed Zimbabwean national Mary-Jean Moyo as Division Director for Tanzania, Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
The appointment places Moyo at the helm of IFC’s East Africa 1 division, based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. She brings more than two decades of experience within the IFC and a distinguished career spanning commercial banking, central banking and private equity across Africa.
Before assuming her new role, Moyo served as Chief of Staff to the IFC Managing Director in Washington, D.C., a position she held for over five years. In that capacity she worked at the highest levels of the institution’s leadership, supporting strategic decision-making and operational coordination across the organisation’s global footprint.

Her earlier roles within the IFC include Regional Industry Director for Manufacturing, Agribusiness and Services covering the Middle East and Africa, as well as Regional Head of the same industry group for Sub-Saharan Africa and, previously, for Latin America and the Caribbean. She has also served as Regional Country Manager for the Ghana Sub-Region and held senior positions in private enterprise development initiatives across Africa.
Prior to joining the IFC, Moyo built her foundation in the financial sector. She began her career at Standard Chartered Bank Zimbabwe and later worked as an Account Manager in Project Finance at Stanbic Bank Zimbabwe.
Mary-Jean Moyo went on to serve as a Senior Bank Examiner in the Financial Institutions Department of the Bank of Botswana, and subsequently held leadership positions in private equity and development finance institutions focused on Southern Africa.
