Fiona Ahimie leads CIS as first female president

Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers has elected Fiona Ahmed Ahimie as its 14th President and Chairman of Council, making her the first woman to lead the Institute in its history appointment that marks a defining moment for Nigeria’s financial services industry.

Her emergence signals more than a leadership transition; it reflects the growing influence of women at the highest levels of capital market leadership and underscores the evolving dynamics of governance within the sector.

Fiona, who currently serves as Managing Director of First Securities Brokers Limited, a subsidiary of FirstHoldCo Plc, brings nearly two decades of experience across stockbroking, investment banking, private equity, real estate, wealth management, and business development.

She began her career at a leading Nigerian stockbroking firm, building a strong foundation in capital market operations and foreign investor transactions. She later joined FBN Capital as Head of Sales Trading, where she played a key role in managing both domestic and international institutional deal flows.

In 2015, she was appointed Managing Director of African Alliance Securities Nigeria, driving notable growth in market share, expanding the client base, and strengthening cross-border transactions. Since joining First Securities Brokers Limited in 2016, she has led a transformational growth journey, positioning the firm among Nigeria’s top-tier brokerage houses by 2018 through enhanced execution capabilities and increased global investor participation.

Beyond her executive role, Fiona holds multiple board positions, including at First Funds, NGX Real Estate Limited, Japtini Logistics, and Awabaah, a micro-pensions business. She also serves on the Statutory Audit Committee of the Central Securities Clearing System.

A strong advocate for continuous learning, she has completed executive education programmes at MIT Sloan School of Management, IESE Business School, and INSEAD, and is currently a Doctorate candidate at Afe Babalola University Business School.

Her professional credentials include being a Chartered Stockbroker, Chartered Accountant, and Chartered Director. She is also an Honorary Member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria, serves on the Curriculum Review Committee of Lagos Business School, and has mentored participants in the WIMBIZ Women on Boards Programme for four consecutive years.

Beyond corporate leadership, Fiona is committed to philanthropy, supporting institutions and sponsoring the education of young people reflecting her dedication to inclusive growth and long-term societal impact.

Her leadership philosophy is anchored on excellence, integrity, fairness, and a refusal to settle for mediocrity.

Her presidency comes at a critical time as Nigeria’s capital market navigates increased global integration, regulatory evolution, and rapid digital transformation. As President, she is set to advance strategic priorities including deepening the market, strengthening professional standards, boosting investor confidence, and nurturing the next generation of capital market professionals.

Fiona assume to resume office on April 30, 2026, with her formal investiture scheduled for June 25, 2026, where key stakeholders across Nigeria’s financial ecosystem are expected to mark this historic transition.
